EU ETS Aviation

The European Commission has proposed adding emissions data from the aviation industry to the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). The EC proposal will require aircraft operators to monitor and report verified data on CO2 emissions arising from aviation activities covered by the scheme. These include both intra-EU flights and all flights entering and departing from EU airports.

The regulations came into effect January 2009 and aircraft operators must submit applications for both their Annual Emissions monitoring plans and Tonne-Kilometre monitoring plans shortly, date to be announced soon. However, our experts at the LRQA Aviation Centre are well placed to help you meet your obligations under this legislation. We were part of the consortium working for the European Commission to develop the monitoring, reporting and verification guidelines for aviation’s inclusion within the EU ETS.

We can provide support and guidance to make sure you meet your obligations under the legislation and our range of services has been developed with the knowledge gained from years of experience working with the aviation sector. Our workshops and briefing sessions will enable you and your colleagues to understand the implications for your business while our gap analysis can help prepare you for the baseline (TKM) verification and annual verifications, both from 2010 onwards.

We are committed to providing our clients with the latest information and as part of this will be regularly updating this website with the continuing development of the Scheme while providing additional product and service information together with informative case studies and articles.
